A wiper seal is an axial seal that creates a seal while allowing a reciprocating shaft to pass through the seal’s inner bore. Wiper seals are often used for fluid containment and to prevent dirt from entering a reciprocating shaft mechanism.
Wiper seals are typically used on hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, as well as telescopic suspension forks for motorcycles and bicycles.
U seals have ‘U’ shape profile including as outside static sealing lip and inside dynamic sealing lip. They are available with single lip or double lip design.
V-ring seals are mounted on shafts and their thin, tapered lip seals against a surface (counter face) at right angles to the shaft.
V-rings are made entirely of elastomer without fabric or sheet metal reinforcement. They are, therefore, particularly easy to install. They can be stretched and, depending on size, can be pushed over other components of the arrangement, e.g. flanges, pulleys or even housings.
